Black-necked Crane Festival in Phobjikha

Day 1     Arrival in Paro.   Afternoon visit the National Museum (Ta-Dzong) which was built in 1656 to safe guard the Rimpung Dzong and Paro valley from Tibetan invasion. It was converted into National Museum in 1968. Walk down through trial to impressive Paro Rimpung Dzong built in 1646. Evening leisurely stroll in the Paro town. Over night at hotel in Paro.

Day 2      Paro – Thimphu.   Morning drive to Thimphu fascinating the gorgeous scenic of Paro and & Thimphu valley. On route visit Tachogang Temple and historical Semtokha Dzong. Lunch at Thimphu. After lunch visit memorial stupa, National library, Folk heritage museum, Painting school and Tashi Chhodzong, the main secretariat building.

Day 3      Thimphu – Punakha.  Morning join Bhutanese people to celebrate the birth anniversary of our beloved king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. We have a grand celebration all over the country. You can join the celebration in the Changlimithang ground. In this big gatheration, one can experience the real social and traditional lifestyle of Bhutanese with different kinds of dances (traditional and modern). After lunch leave for Punakha. Stop at Dochula pass for stunning view of Himalayan mountain ranges. Visit historical Punakha Dzong built in 1637. It served as capital for Bhutan until 1950s. take a walk to Chhimi Lhakhang  (temple of fertility).

Day 4 Punakha - Phobjikha Crane Festival. Morning drive to Phobjikha valley. On arrival attend the festival. In the festival you will be able to witness students performing crane dance and numerous cultural programs organized by the community. The community also puts up a small stalls that  offer many colorful local items such as yak tail dusters, butter tea cups, turquoise and also different Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. This is also a good time for you to see Black Necked Cranes which migrate to Bhutan from Tibet during the winter. Overnight at resort in Phobjikha.

Day 5     Fascinating in Phobjikha Valley.   Early morning, it’s very interesting to take a short walk through nature trails. Morning attend the celebration of crane festivals. Afternoon visit Gangtey Goenpa monastery and Nyingma Institute. Visit crane centre and carpet producing unit. Overnight at resort in Phobjikha.

Day 6  Phobjikha - Wangdue.  Morning drive to Wangdue. On arrival visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong and it small town. Afternoon leisurely walk into countryside and relax. Overnight at resort in Wangdue.

Day 7    Wangdue – Paro.   Morning drive to Paro via Thimphu. Lunch at Thimphu and resume to Paro. On arrival visit Dumtse Lhakhang and Dzongdrakha Goenpa, four sets of buildings and a large stupa hanging on the side of a cliff. Overnight at hotel / farmhouse in Paro if you wish.

Day 8    Excursion to Taktsang.    After an early breakfast, drive to Taktsang Monastery. The name Taktsang means "Tiger’s Nest". Located on top of the rook with height of 900mtrs from the ground level overlooking the Paro Valley. Lunch at Taktsang cafeteria. On route visit ruined Drukgyel Dzong and enjoy the stunning view of Mount Jomulhari. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, the old monastery in Bhutan founded by Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. Evening visit farmhouses if you wish and take a walk around countryside. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 9      Drive to airport for your onward destination. Thanks for visiting us.
