Day 1: Arrival in Paro. Afternoon visit the ruined Drukgyel Dzong and have a nice view of Mt. Jomulhari if the day is clear. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and towards evening enjoy strolling around the Paro town exploring the cultural and lifestyle of Bhutanese.
Day 3: Punakha & Wangdue Sightseeing. Morning visit Punakha Dzong, the old capital of Bhutan. Take a drive along the upstream river valley. You will see the white bellied heron along the river valleys. It is globally an endanger bird species. Take a short walk to Khamsum Yullley temple built on a hillock overlooking the valley. Lunch at Punakha. After lunch, drive to Wangdue on route visit Chhimi Lhakhang (temple of fertility) built on a spectacular site in 1499 by Ngawang Chogyel. Visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong built in 1738, by Zhabdrung Rimpoche and stroll over the small town of Wangdue. Overnight stay at hotel in Punakha. Day 4: Punakha – Bumthang via Phobjikha. Morning drive to Trongsa across the Pelela passes (3270 mtrs). Enroute visit the gracious valley of Phobjikha. Gangtey is a beautiful place situated at an altitude of 3000m. From Gangtey, one can closely view the picturesque black mountain ranges as well as the beautiful Phobjikha valley that is one of the biggest and the most beautiful valleys in the country. During winters, we can also see the famous Black Necked Cranes there. Visit the Nyingma Institute and the Monastery at Gangtey Goenpa. Overnight at hotel in Trongsa. Day 5: Trongsa – Bumthang. Morning visit the Trongsa Dzong, a very impressive one built in 1643 by Chogyel Minjur Tempa. It was ancestral home of Royal family. Soon after lunch resume to Bumthang. Drives uphill to Yotongla pass at 3320 mtrs and then downhill to Getsa. In Chumey valley, you will come across display of woolen hand woven colorful clothes. The next valley after Kilela pass is Jakar, the land Switzerland of Bhutan where tales of the great teacher Guru Rimpoche dominates. Visit Jakar Dzong, Jambay Lhakhang, and Kurjey Lhakhang. Overnight stay at hotel in Bumthang. Day 6: Bumthang – Mongar. Early morning begin your journey to the East fascinating Ura valley, one of the most beautiful. Out of Ura, the highway climbs steeply to Thrumshing La pass at 3800 mtrs along the West to East highway. The descent from Thrumshing La to Lingmethang is amazing for a number of reasons. The road drops from 3800 meters to 650 meters in only a few hours passing from pine forest through semi-tropical forest to orange groves. Arriving at Mongar marks the beginning of your eastern Bhutan experience. Overnight at hotel in Mongar. Day 7 – 8: Lhuentse Festivals & Sightseeing. Morning drive to Lhuentse for festivals. Lhuentse is an isolated district and very rural. Formally known as Kurtoe, the region is the ancestral home of Bhutan’s royal family. Visit Lhuentse Rinchentse Phodrang Dzong is perch on a rooky out crop overlooking the Kuri Chu valley. Trongsa Penlop, Chogyel Minjur Tempa, built it in 1654. Khoma region in Lhuentse is also famous in textile. The construction of world’s largest Guru Statue is under construction in Tangma Chu by Odiyana Project. Overnight at guest house / camp in Lhuentse. Day 9: Lhuentse – Mongar. Morning attend the last day festival. Afternoon begin your return journey to Mongar. On arrival at Mongar, pay visit to Mongar Dzong and Killikhar monastery “Buddhist Institute”. Evening leisurely walk around the town and relax in hotel. Day 10: Mongar – Bumthang. Early morning drive to Bumthang. Enroute visit Mebar Tso meaning “Flaming Lake” in Tang valley. Its legend is that pool where some of Guru Rimpoche’s treasures were found in the 14th century by the famous treasure discovers Pema Lingpa. Relax in hotel and overnight at hotel in Bumthang. Day 11: Fascinating the spiritual valley of Bumthang. Visit the historical Jakar Dzong built by Minjur Tenpa, the third Druk Desi (Temporal ruler) in 1646. Visit several ancient and important monasteries such as, Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, Kuenchogsum Lhakhang, Tamshing and Pema Samba Lhakhangs. Also, visit the Bumthang Swiss farm and the Mebar Tso “The flaming Lake” which is considered one of the most important pilgrimage spots. Over night at hotel in Bumthang. Day 12: Bumthang – Wangdue. After breakfast, drive to Wangdue. Enroute visit Baeyul Langdra. Baeyul Langdrag meaning (Sacred Bull Rock) is located in Wangdiphodrang District. It is a sacred place blessed by Guru Rimpoche and later by Terton Dorje Lingpa. The hidden doctrine of Dorje Lingpa was revealed at the place. Many highly spiritual Buddhist Masters like Jadrel Rimpoche deeply honoured the sacred place and set up retreat center for the devotees. Visiting such a holy place will morally or spiritually enrich the Buddhist followers. Overnight at resort in Wangdue. Day 13: Wangdue-Thimphu. Drive to Thimphu. Lunch at hotel. After lunch, visit memorial Stupa and walk around the weekend market. Evening visit Tashi Chhodzong, the main Secretariat Building, where the government ministries, the office of His Majesty the King, the Throne Room, the offices and living quarters of the monk body and its Chief Abbot are housed. Evening, relax at the hotel or stroll through Capital city. Overnight stay at hotel Thimphu. Day 14: Thimphu Sightseeing. In the morning visit Changangkha Lhakhang, Takin preservation centre and drive up to Sangaygang for spectacular view of majesty city valley of Thimphu, Drupthog Goenpa Nunnery. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon visit Painting school, Traditional Medicine Museum, Folk Heritage museum National Library and Handicraft Emporium, Textile Factory in Changzamtog and walking in the city. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu. Day 15: Thimphu – Paro. After an early breakfast drive to Paro till road head and take a walk to Taktsang monastery. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon, visit the National museum ("Ta-Dzong"). The Watch Tower of the Paro Rimpung Dzong. Visit the massive fortress of Rimpung Dzong (the fort on the heap of jewels) built in 1645. Overnight stay at hotel in Paro. Day 16: Morning drive to PAro International Airport for your onward destination. |
