Day 1: Arrive Bagdogra Indian Airline. Get the connecting flight in Jet Airways to Bagdogra from where Bhutanese escort from Lhuethag Adventure will receive you and transfer to Phuntsholing (4 hours drive). Check in hotel Phuntsholing. Evening stroll in the Phuntsholing town. Day 2: Phuntsholing -Thimphu After an ear;y breakfast drive to Thimphu up on several zig zags, the most popular being Sorchen zig, it is interesting to see how vegetation changes from wet sub-tropical to the warm temperate. Tall waterfalls, small red monkeys and languor are some of the things you would see along the way. You will pass through the newly developed township at Gedu and the bird’s eye view of Chukha hydropower colony and eventually to the confluence where a road from Phuntsholing, Thimphu, Paro and Haa meets. Finally, you will arrive in Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu. Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing. After breakfast, drive to National Memorial Chorten built in 1974, to honour the memory of the late king and Changangkha Lhakhang built in 12th century. Visit the Takin (national animal) preservation Sangay gang for spectacular view of Capital City. Drop by Druptho Goenpa nunnery, Painting School and National Library. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu. Day 4: Thimphu – Phobjikha Valley. Early morning, drive to gracious valley of Phobjikha. The journey to Phobjikha takes you up hill on a winding road to Dochula pass at 3080 mtrs. You could spend half an hour taking rounds around the 108 Stupas built at a marvelous spot and feast your eyes on spectacular views of eastern Himalayan Mountain range. Continue your journey via Wangdue Dzong and town and have lunch there. After lunch, drive to Phobjikha the most beautiful gracious valleys in the country. During winters, we can also see the famous Black Necked Cranes there. Visit the Nyingma Institute and the Monastery at Gangtey Goenpa, Carpet production unit, and crane centre. Overnight at hotel in Phobjikha. Day 5: Phobjikha – Bumthang. Morning proceed to Bumthang via Trongsa across Pelela pass at 3270mtrs. Lunch at Trongsa. After lunch visit the Trongsa Dzong, a very impressive one built in 1644 by Chogyel Minjur Tempa who was sent by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to unify eastern Bhutan. Soon after drive to Bumthang the Switzerland of Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Bumthang. Day 6: Bumthang – Mongar. Early morning begin your journey to the East fascinating Ura valley, one of the most beautiful. Out of Ura, the highway climbs steeply to Thrumshing La pass at 3800 mtrs along the West to East highway. The descent from Thrumshing La to Lingmethang is amazing for a number of reasons. The road drops from 3800 meters to 650 meters in only a few hours passing from pine forest through semi-tropical forest to orange groves. Arriving at Mongar marks the beginning of your eastern Bhutan experience. Overnight at hotel in Mongar. Day 7: Mongar Festival. Religious festivals known as 'Tsechus' symbolizing amity, peace and compassion, are held annually at various parts of the kingdom at different times of the year. These vibrant festivals are a time for the people to come together decent in all their ceremonial dress. During the festival, rare and sacred masked dances, sword dances and many rituals are performed. Evening, take a walk to Kilikhar monastery houses for Buddhist College and stroll through the Mongar for your leisure. Overnight at hotel in Mongar. Day 8: Mongar – Trashigang. Morning, begin your trip to Trashigang across Korila pass at 2400mtrs passing through several villages. On arrival, attend the festival in courtyard of Trashigang Dzong and stroll around the town, absorbing the culture of eastern Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Trashigang. Day 9: Trashigang Tsechu. Morning attend the festival. During Tsechu, the dances are performed by monks as well as by laymen. The Tsechu is a religious festival and by attending it, it is believed one gains merits. It is also a yearly social gathering, where the people dressed in all their finery, come together to rejoice. Afternoon drive to Khaling weaving centre (2 hrs distance from Trashigang town). On the way drop for a while to view the Sherubtse College (only Bhutan’s university) and temple in Kanglung. Overnight at hotel in Trashigang. Day 10: Full day Excursion to Tashiyangtse. Fullday excursion to Tashiyangtse. Visit Gomphu Kora monastery Bhutan’s oldest and highly venerated sacred sites associated with Bhutan’s patron saint, Guru Padmasambhava. Visit the Chorten Kora and Tashiyangtse Dzong. Take a quick glance of Institute of 13 craft and memorial Chorten of H.H the late Aja Lam Dorji Tenzin built 28 September, 2005 by his sons & daughters. He was born in linage of Terton Dorji Lingpa, Truelku Khachab Namkha Dorji Rimpoche in 1921 and lead his life as “extra ordinary beings, ordinary lives”. Overnight at hotel in Trashigang. Day 11: Trashigang – Mongar. Morning begin your return journey to Mongar. Enroute visit Drametse monastery just 18km from road head to Mongar. This monastery is historically important and unique as houses for the Married Nyingma monks (laymen). Ani Chhoten Zangmo, the great-grand daughter of Pema Lingpa and her husband, Yeshi Gyalpo founded the Monastery in 1511 and named the place as Drametse, which means “the peak where there is no enemy” Day 12 Mongar – Bumthang. Early morning drive to Bumthang. Enroute visit Mebar Tso meaning “Flaming Lake” in Tang valley. Its legend is that pool where some of Guru Rinpoche's treasures were found in the 14th century by the famous treasure discovers Pema Lingpa. Relax in hotel and overnight at hotel in Bumthang. Day 13 Bumthang Sightseeing. Early morning begin your sight seeing starts from Jakar Dzong. The historical Jakar Dzong was built in 1646 by Minjur Tempa, the third Druk Desi (Temporal ruler). Visit several ancient and important monasteries such as, Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, Kuenchogsum Lhakhang, Tamshing and Pema Samba Lhakhangs. Also, visit the Bumthang Swiss farm and take a walk around the spiritual valley of Bumthang. Overnight at hotel in Bumthang. Day 14: Bumthang – Punakha. After early breakfast, start your trips to Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong the old capital of Bhutan in the 1950s. Punakha Dzong is a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture. Take a drive along the upstream river valley. You will see the white bellied heron along the river valleys. It is globally an endanger bird species. Take a short walk to Khamsum Yullley temple built on a hillock overlooking the valley. Overnight at hotel in Punakha. Day 15: Punakha – Thimphu. Drive to Thimphu via visiting Chime Lhakhang (Monastery of fertility) built 1499 by Ngawang Chogyel and Semtokha Dzong built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Rimpoche, the foundered of Bhutan, and Traditional Paper Factory. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu. Day 16: Thimphu – Paro. Morning drive to Paro through winding road of Wangchu valley and Paro valley. Visit National museum called Ta Dzong on a hill overlooking Paro Rimpung Dzong. The museum exhibits some of the finest specimens of Buddhist arts and paintings of different periods, as well as the collection of Bhutan’s exquisites and world-renowned postage stamps to experience the pulsating life of Bhutan as expressed in a selection of objects created during 3000 years of history. Overnight at hotel in Paro. Day 17: Excursion to Taktsang Monastery. Morning drive to Taktsang Monastery. The name Taktsang means "Tiger’s Den" situated on the rock with height of 900 mtrs from the ground level overlooking the Paro Valley. Lunch at town. Afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakhang and ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. This Dzong is of historical importance, from whose ramparts the Bhutanese repelled Tibetan invaders. From there you can view the sacred Mount Jomulhari (24,000 ft) and drop by Kyichu Lhakhang, one of oldest temple built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 7 century. Overnight at hotel in Paro.
