Glimpse of Himalayan Kingdom

Day1   Arrive at Paro International Airport:

During the journey to Paro, one will experience breath-taking views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks, including the sacred Mount Jomulhari and Jichu Drake in Bhutan. Representative of Lhuethag Adventures will receive you and transfer to hotel. Relax and have lunch at hotel with new environment and fresh air of Bhutan.


After lunch, drive to ruined Drukgyel Dzong built in 1649 as victory over Tibetan tropes. From here you can see the Mt. Jomulhari (7314mtrs). On route, from Santsam one can see the view of Taktsang monastery just perched on the rock overlooking Paro valley. Its a glory of second Buddha “Guru Rimpoche” and considered as famous pilgrim in Bhutan. Then you can also drop by Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest monastery in the kingdom and one of the 108 monasteries which was built in 7th century by first Tibetan Buddhist king Songtsen Gampo. According to legend believed that Songtsen Gampo turned up into 108 emanations to built 108 monasteries in a single day at same time in order to pin down the ogress who stretches over Himalayan causing disturbance in flourish of Buddhist doctrines. Day2   Paro – Thimphu (56km/ 2hrs):    

Morning, drive to Paro Ta-Dzong (watch tower) with a history stretching over 356 years. It was built by Tenzin Drugdra, the first Penlop (Governor) of Paro to safe guard the Rinpung Dzong and Paro valley. In 1968 this ancient watch tower was renovated and turned up into a National Museum under the command of His Majesty, the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Today, the National Museum has in its possession over 3000 artifacts covering more than 1500 years of Bhutanese cultural heritage. Its rich holdings of creative traditions and disciplines are a blend of the past, the present and the strong respective of future. The National Museum brings history to life.
 

Take a walk down to Rinpung Dzong (fortress on the heap of jewels) built in 1645 by Zhadrung Ngawang Namgyal. This massive fortress is located in the Paro valley and is approached by a gently sloping flagstone road and a beautiful wooden bridge roofed with shingles and abutted by two guardhouses. Today, this fortress houses the Administrative seat of the Paro region and the district Monk Body with about 200 monks. The central tower (Utse) of the fortress is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan with its superb woodwork. Serve lunch at hotel in Paro.
 

After lunch, drive to Thimphu (capital of Bhutan). It takes 2 hrs drives to Thimphu through the winding road along the Paro. Check in at the hotel. After tea at the hotel, take a leisurely stroll in the Thimphu town. Over night stay at hotel in Thimphu.


Day3   Sightseeing in Thimphhu:  

Toady begins the day with visiting Memorial Chorten (a huge stupa) built in 1974 to honour the memory of the third King. Drive up to Sangay Gang for magical views of Thimphu city and Takin (National Nnimal) preservation centre and Nunnery Institute in Zilukha, Institute of 13 arts and crafts, Traditional Hospital and Folk Heritage museum. Then you can see National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserves just below the Painting school and explore the handicraft emporium. Lunch at local restaurant/ hotel.


After lunch, visit textile museum/ textile factory in Changzamtok and Traditional Handmade Paper factory and gold smith. Towards evening visit Tashi Chhodzong, the main secretariat building. This massive fortress houses the office of the King and the Throne Room and part of the government Ministries. It also houses the State Monastic Body, the office, and the living quarters of the Chief Abbot. Over night stay at hotel in Thimphu.
 


Day4   Thimphu – Paro:      

Morning drives up to Dochula pass (26 km). Enjoy the most spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. Walk around the 108 Druk Wangyel stupas recently built by Her Majesty, the Queen Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. Have a cup of Tea /coffee at Dochula cafeteria and return to Thimphu. Enroute visit Semtokha Dzong built in 1629. Serve lunch at local restaurant in Thimphu. Evening resume your drive to Paro. Over night stay at hotel in Paro.
 

Day5   Morning drive to Paro Airport for your onward destination. Tashi delek!
